May 16 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Leann Papp will share information about the life and career of Pierce Manning Butler Young, who came to Cartersville as a child, and later became a Major General in the Civil War. Young is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville. Learn about the Young family and get an overview of the education and military career of Pierce, and hear a synopsis of his political career. Papp began volunteering four years ago with the Bartow History Museum Archives and has participated in transcribing more than 1,800 documents, including letters, contracts and other types of correspondence between Pierce and his family, friends, cousins and business associates. Papp’s lecture is based on her research of Young and the transcription of his personal letters. The lecture is included with paid museum admission, and free to Bartow History Museum members.
