Graham Hobart is a black and white photographer who grew up in what is now known as Zimbabwe. As a child, he was fascinated by prints and pen and ink drawings of animals and landscapes. While living in Africa, Graham was exposed to the continent’s vast landscapes, diverse peoples and exotic animals. Graham took that interest and created a series of photographs in Africa utilizing infrared technology to highlight the patterns and textures he saw around him. Taking this same technique, Graham went to the American West to capture its unique elements. The textures and patterns of the American West are similarly transformed, many appearing almost like drawings. While different locations, animals, plants and people are all present, Graham transforms what he sees into something seemingly in-between a photograph and a drawing, creating a timeless quality of these two worlds.
